Biography
Alma Har'el is an Israeli-American director, writer, producer and editor. Born and raised in Tel Aviv, she began working as a photographer and VJ before directing music videos and documentaries.
Her documentary Bombay Beach (2011) won the Tribeca Film Festival's best documentary prize and received an Independent Spirit Award nomination. LoveTrue (2016) won the Grand Prix for best documentary at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. She directed episodes of the series DAVE (2020).
Har'el made her narrative feature debut with Honey Boy (2019), for which she won the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directing – First-Time Feature Film. She created, wrote, directed and edited the Apple TV+ series Lady in the Lake (2024).
