Biography
Anant Singh is a South African film producer and the CEO of Videovision Entertainment. Born in 1956 in Durban, he attended the University of Durban-Westville before leaving his studies to enter the film industry. He began with video distribution and moved into production in 1986 with Place of Weeping, the first anti-apartheid film made entirely in South Africa.
Singh has produced or executive produced over 80 films, including Sarafina! (1992), Cry, the Beloved Country (1995), The Mangler (1995), Yesterday (2004), Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013) and The Song of Names (2019). He spent more than two decades developing the Mandela project, which he had discussed with Nelson Mandela while the latter was imprisoned, and was granted the film rights to the autobiography. Singh is chairman of Cape Town Film Studios and a member of the International Olympic Committee.
