Biography
Anatoli Yabbarov was a Soviet and Russian actor and theatre director. Born in Baku in 1937, he trained at the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) in Moscow, graduating in 1966. He began appearing in films while a student and went on to play mostly episodic and supporting roles over several decades.
He is credited as Captain Chelpanov in Miklós Jancsó’s The Red and the White (1967). Other film appearances include an uncredited role as a monk in Andrei Rublev (1966) and the part of Mityay in Gentlemen of Fortune (1971). Yabbarov also worked in theatre, directing productions at the State Theatre of Cinema Actors in Moscow, and was named an Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation in 1996. He died in Moscow in 2023.
