Biography
André Wilms was a French actor born in Strasbourg on 29 April 1947. He appeared in French, German and Finnish films and had an extensive stage career, performing regularly at the Théâtre national de Strasbourg from 1975 to 1984 and in productions across France and Germany.
Wilms became known for roles in films by Étienne Chatiliez, including Life Is a Long Quiet River (1988) and Tanguy (2001), and by Patrice Leconte in Monsieur Hire (1989). He collaborated repeatedly with Aki Kaurismäki, playing Marcel in La Vie de Bohème (1992) and reprising a version of the character in Le Havre (2011). He received the European Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for the former.
His other credits include Europa Europa (1990) as Robert and Auntie Danielle (1990). Wilms died in Paris on 9 February 2022.
