Biography
Andreas Voutsinas was a Greek actor and theatre director. In the English-speaking world he was best known for his roles in three Mel Brooks films: The Producers (1967) as Carmen Ghia, The Twelve Chairs (1970) as Nikolai Sestrin, and History of the World: Part I (1981) as Bearnaise in the French Revolution sequence.
Born in Khartoum, Sudan, to parents from Cephalonia, Greece, Voutsinas studied acting and costume design at the Old Vic Theatre School and drama at the Webber Douglas Academy in London. He joined the Actors Studio in 1957 and later worked as an actor and director on Broadway. He also appeared in films including The Big Blue (1988) and worked with directors such as Jules Dassin and Luc Besson. Voutsinas directed more than 130 productions in London, Paris, New York, Canada and Greece.
He died in Athens in 2010.
