Biography
Angela Mao Ying, also credited as Mao Ying or Mao Fu-Ying, is a Taiwanese actress and martial artist. Born on 20 September 1950 in Taiwan, she trained from a young age at a Peking Opera school, including the Fu Sheng Opera School, where she specialised in wudan (female warrior) roles.
She appeared in numerous martial arts films in the 1970s, most notably as Yu Ying in Hapkido (1972), also known as Lady Kung Fu, and as Su Lin in Enter the Dragon (1973). Other credits include Lady Whirlwind (1972). She was the first actress signed to Golden Harvest and worked with directors such as Huang Feng and King Hu, as well as actors including Sammo Hung and Carter Wong. She became known by the nicknames "Lady Whirlwind" and "Lady Kung Fu".
Mao retired from acting in the early 1980s and later moved to New York, where she has operated several restaurants.
