Biography
Anna Borkowska (also credited as Anna Afkhami) was a Polish-Iranian actress and vocal teacher. Born in Mykolaiv in the Russian Empire, she was deported to Siberia as a child following the Soviet invasion of Poland in 1939. She was one of the Polish refugees who reached Iran with Anders' Army in 1941 and settled in Tehran, where she later married an Iranian police officer.
She appeared in several Iranian films, including Going Astray (1988), The Love-stricken (1992) and The White Balloon (1995), in which she played the Old Lady. She was also the subject of the 1983 documentary The Lost Requiem by Khosrow Sinai about Polish refugees in Iran. Borkowska died in Tehran in 2008 and is buried in the Polish cemetery at Doulab.
