Biography
Anthony Sparks is an American television writer, producer and showrunner. Originally from Chicago’s South Side, he began his career as an actor, appearing in the Broadway production of Stomp and the Emmy-winning HBO film Stomp Out Loud. He holds BFA, MA and PhD degrees from the University of Southern California.
His writing credits include episodes of The District, Lincoln Heights (2007–2009), Undercovers (2010) and The Blacklist (2014). He served as producer on The Blacklist and later became showrunner, head writer and executive producer of Queen Sugar (2016–2021). More recent work includes writing and executive producing on the limited series Mike (2022) and the series Bel-Air (2022–).
Sparks has received NAACP Image Award nominations and the 2020 Television Academy Honors award as showrunner of Queen Sugar.
