Biography
Antoine Vitez (1930–1990) was a French actor, theatre director, poet and translator. He appeared in supporting roles in several films, including as Vidal in My Night at Maud's (1969), a Communist friend in The Confession (1970), the Bishop's secretary in The Green Room (1978) and a Pan-Am employee in The War Is Over (1966).
Vitez trained as an actor and began his career on stage in the early 1950s. He became a prominent figure in post-war French theatre as a director, teacher and administrator. He founded the Théâtre des Quartiers d'Ivry in 1972, served as director of the Théâtre national de Chaillot from 1981 to 1988, and was appointed deputy head of the Comédie-Française in 1988, a position he held until his death.
