Biography
Antônio Carlos Jobim, also known as Tom Jobim, was a Brazilian composer, pianist, guitarist, arranger and singer. Born in Rio de Janeiro, he began playing piano in the 1940s and worked as an arranger in recording studios from the early 1950s.
Jobim is recognised as a leading figure in bossa nova. With lyricist Vinicius de Moraes he wrote the score for the film Black Orpheus (1959), which introduced the genre to international audiences. His compositions were later recorded by artists including João Gilberto, Stan Getz and Frank Sinatra.
