Biography
Anya Beyersdorf is an Australian actress and screenwriter. Born in Armidale, New South Wales, she studied drama and communication at the University of Newcastle before moving to Melbourne in 2003 to pursue acting. She trained in acting and directing in Berlin after winning the Marten Bequest Prize for Acting in 2008/2009, and has appeared in feature films including Rats and Cats (2008) and Black & White & Sex (2011), as well as several short films and television series such as Blue Heelers and Crownies.
Beyersdorf has written for a number of Australian television series. Her credits include episodes of Eden (2021), Fires (2021), The Twelve (2024), the documentary series The Black Hand (2023), and the Netflix limited series Apple Cider Vinegar (2025). She created and wrote the Paramount+ series Fake (2024) and is credited as writer on Playing Gracie Darling (2025).
She won an AWGIE Award for her screenplay Paradise in 2014, and further AWGIE Awards for Fires (2022) and Fake (2025). In 2016 she received one of the inaugural Lexus Australia Short Film Fellowships from the Sydney Film Festival for How the Light Gets In, which she wrote and directed. She was a Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting semi-finalist.
