Biography
Artel Great (born 11 September 1981) is an American actor and filmmaker. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting and made early screen appearances in Light It Up (1999) and as Arvel in Save the Last Dance (2001).
Great is known for portraying Rodney in the 2002 film Dahmer, a performance that earned him an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Debut Performance. His other acting credits include Down in the Valley (2005), The Soloist (2009) and a role in the television series 24 (2001). He has also written and directed films, including Love Like Winter (2020). Great graduated summa cum laude from the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television as its first Black valedictorian and holds a PhD from NYU Tisch; he is an associate professor of cinema at San Francisco State University.
