Biography
Arthur Peterson Jr. (1912–1996) was an American actor who appeared in character and supporting roles on stage, radio, television and film. Born in Mandan, North Dakota, he earned a theatre degree from the University of Minnesota and began his career with the Federal Theatre Project and in old-time radio, including the central role on the serial The Guiding Light from 1937.
His television work included a long-running part as The Major in the sitcom Soap (1977–1981) and guest appearances in series such as The Twilight Zone, Mission: Impossible, Bonanza and Perry Mason. Film credits include an uncredited role in Call Northside 777 (1948) and the part of Ed Loughlin in Targets (1968). He was married to actress Norma Ransome. Later in his career he performed a one-man show about Robert Frost and taught acting.
