Biography
Atilio Stampone (1926–2022) was an Argentine pianist, composer and arranger, prominent in the tango genre. Born in Buenos Aires, he played in orchestras led by Pedro Maffia and Astor Piazzolla before forming his own groups and studying classical piano in Rome.
He composed scores for several films, including The Official Story (1985), directed by Luis Puenzo, as well as works by Leopoldo Torre Nilsson such as Un guapo del 900 (1960) and La mano en la trampa (1961). Stampone served as president of the Argentine Society of Authors and Composers (SADAIC) and directed the Orquesta Nacional de Música Argentina "Juan de Dios Filiberto".
