Biography
Audrey Totter was an American actress who worked in radio, film and television. Born Audrey Mary Totter on 20 December 1917 in Joliet, Illinois, she began her career in Chicago radio in the late 1930s before signing a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
She made her film debut in Main Street After Dark (1945) and appeared as Madge Gorland in The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946). Totter became known for roles in film noir, including Lady in the Lake (1947) and The Set-Up (1949). She also worked extensively in television from the 1950s onward, with guest appearances in series such as Perry Mason, Hawaii Five-O and Murder, She Wrote.
Totter married physician Leo Fred in 1953; the couple had one daughter. She died on 12 December 2013 in Woodland Hills, California.
