Biography
Augusto Benedico, born Augusto Pérez Lías, was a Spanish-Mexican actor. He trained as a lawyer in Barcelona, where he first performed in student theatre, and graduated in law in 1936.
Following the Spanish Civil War, he was held in a French concentration camp in 1939 before arriving in Mexico as a refugee aboard the SS Mexique. He obtained Mexican citizenship and made his professional theatre debut in 1948 under the direction of Cipriano Rivas Cherif, later appearing in film from the late 1940s and on television from the early 1960s.
Benedico played Dr Carlos Conde in Luis Buñuel's The Exterminating Angel (1962) and Father Rentería in Pedro Páramo (1967). Among his television roles were Don Fermín in the series Carrusel (1989) and parts in telenovelas including Los ricos también lloran.
