Biography
Azie Mira Dungey is an American writer, producer and actress. She graduated from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and began her career in theatre in Washington, DC. From 2010 to 2012 she worked as a historical interpreter at Mount Vernon, portraying an enslaved woman.
In 2013 she created, wrote and starred in the web series Ask a Slave, drawing on her experiences at the plantation. She later wrote for the Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (2015–2019), where she also served as executive story editor and producer. Her other writing credits include Sweetbitter (2018), Girls5eva (2021), Harlem (2021) and Night Court (2023). She has received Writers Guild of America nominations.
