Biography
Bagrat Oganesyan (also credited as Bagrat Hovhannisyan) was an Armenian director, writer and actor. Born in Baku in 1929, he studied at Yerevan State University and the Gorky Institute of World Literature in Moscow before entering cinema in the 1960s through Mosfilm.
He worked as a trainee assistant director on Andrei Tarkovsky’s Andrei Rublev (1966) and as script editor on The Color of Pomegranates (1969). Tarkovsky later cast him as Professor Tarkhe in Solaris (1972) and served as creative adviser on Oganesyan’s debut feature Sour Grape (1974). Oganesyan directed further films at Armenfilm, including Autumn Sun (1977) and Master (1983).
He died in Yerevan in 1990.
