Biography
Barry Simner is a British television writer and creator. He wrote for Midsomer Murders in 2005 and contributed to series including The Bill (1993–1999), Holby City (2004–2005) and Byker Grove.
He helped create Channel 4’s Family Pride (1991–1992), Britain’s first Asian soap opera, and co-devised and served as lead writer on the five series of ITV’s The Vice (1999–2003). Simner created the Irish drama Single-Handed (2007–2010) for RTÉ and ITV.
His stage plays include Playing the Man for Salisbury Playhouse and The Cabinet of Dr Caligari for Nottingham Playhouse and the Lyric Hammersmith. He has twice been runner-up in the Arvon National Poetry Competition and works as a creative writing tutor.
