Biography
Bebe Barron was an American composer and pioneer of electronic music. Born Charlotte May Wind in Minneapolis, Minnesota, she worked with her husband Louis Barron to create early electronic compositions using magnetic tape and custom-built circuits.
The couple are credited with the first entirely electronic film score, for the 1956 MGM production Forbidden Planet. Their work on the film was credited as “electronic tonalities” owing to a dispute with the musicians’ union. Barron had previously collaborated with John Cage on tape music projects in New York.
