Biography

Ben Lewin is an Australian film and television director, screenwriter and producer. Born in Poland in 1946, he emigrated with his family to Melbourne as a child. He studied law at the University of Melbourne and worked as a criminal barrister before receiving a scholarship to the National Film and Television School in England.

Lewin began his career in British television after graduating. He has directed feature films in Australia, Britain and the United States. He is best known for writing, directing and producing the 2012 film The Sessions, which starred John Hawkes and Helen Hunt. His other credits include directing episodes of Ally McBeal and the films Please Stand By (2018), The Catcher Was a Spy (2018) and Falling for Figaro (2021).
