Biography
Benjamin Christensen (28 September 1879 – 2 April 1959) was a Danish film director, screenwriter and actor in both film and on the stage. He began his artistic career as an opera singer in 1902, later turning to acting before making his directorial debut with Det hemmelighedsfulde X (1914).
Christensen is best known for Häxan (1922), which he directed, wrote and in which he played the Devil. He subsequently worked in Germany and Hollywood, directing films including The Devil's Circus (1926) and Seven Footprints to Satan (1929), before returning to Denmark in the 1930s.
