Biography

Bernadette O'Brien was a costume designer and wardrobe supervisor. Born Helen Bernadette Brady in Dublin on 29 March 1934, she immigrated to the United States in 1955 with her husband Jack and settled in Cleveland, Ohio. She worked in theatrical productions there, taught costume design at a local university and contributed to the Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival before moving to Los Angeles in 1977.

O'Brien's film credits as costume designer include Vice Squad (1982), Eyes of Fire (1983), House (1985), Thrashin' (1986) and Cries of Silence (1996). She also served as costume supervisor on Good Burger (1997) and Another Stakeout (1993), and worked on For the Boys (1991) and Mobsters (1991). On television she contributed to series including MacGyver, for which she received a 1992 Emmy nomination shared with Thomas Welsh, Murder, She Wrote and T.J. Hooker.

O'Brien died on 20 January 2025 in Spokane, Washington.
