Biography

Bernard Gribble (15 May 1927 – 15 September 2004) was a British film editor. Born in Newhaven, East Sussex, he began his career in the cutting rooms at Ealing Studios in the mid-1940s, working as an assistant before receiving his first editing credit on Another Shore (1948). He went freelance in 1953 and edited numerous British features, including The Man in the White Suit (1951) and several comedies.

In the 1970s Gribble moved to Hollywood, where he worked on films such as Death Wish (1974), White Dog (1982), Motel Hell (1980), The Sentinel (1977), Top Secret! (1984) and Caddyshack II (1988). His television credits include the miniseries The Winds of War (1983), for which he received a Primetime Emmy nomination, and Ellis Island (1984), which earned him ACE Eddie Award nominations. A founding member of the Guild of British Film and Television Editors, he was also elected to the American Cinema Editors.
