Biography
Bernard Spear (1919–2003) was an English actor. He appeared in the 1968 film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as the Second Spy, and in other films including Bedazzled (1967), The Adventures of Barry McKenzie (1972), Yentl (1983) as the Tailor, and The Man Who Cried (2000).
On stage, he played dual roles in the 1968 London production of Man of La Mancha and appeared in West End musicals such as Hello, Dolly!. His television work included the BAFTA-winning play Bar Mitzvah Boy (1976) and a regular role in the soap Albion Market (1985–86), as well as episodes of Lovejoy.
Born in Croydon, Surrey, Spear served in the Royal Artillery during the Second World War. He married dancer and writer Mary Newton in 1949; they had one son.
