Biography
Billy Goldenberg was an American composer and songwriter for film and television. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he studied at Columbia College and became a protégé of Broadway songwriter Frank Loesser. He began his career as a pianist and arranger, working on Broadway productions including An Evening with Nichols and May.
Goldenberg scored numerous television series and films from the late 1960s onwards. He composed music for Columbo (1971), including pilot episodes, Duel (1971), Play It Again, Sam (1972), The Last of Sheila (1973) and Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (1973). He also wrote themes for Kojak and Rhoda. His television work earned multiple Emmy Awards, including for Queen of the Stardust Ballroom (1975), The Lives of Benjamin Franklin (1974), King (1978) and Rage of Angels (1983). He collaborated with directors such as Steven Spielberg and musicians including Elvis Presley and Barbra Streisand.
