Biography
Bob Munroe is a Canadian visual effects supervisor, producer and second unit director, also credited as Robert Munroe. He has worked extensively in film and television since the 1990s, including as co-founder of C.O.R.E. Digital Pictures.
Munroe served as visual effects producer and co-producer on the historical drama series The Tudors (2007–2010), for which he also directed second unit. His other credits include visual effects supervision on Blade II (2002), Splice (2009, also second unit director), All Is Lost (2013), Dolphin Tale (2011) and its sequel, In the Tall Grass (2019), and senior visual effects supervision on Altered Carbon (2018) and What We Do in the Shadows (2019). He contributed to The Expanse as visual effects supervisor and senior visual effects supervisor.
Munroe developed a patented process for matching real-world lighting to computer-generated environments. He has received multiple Gemini (now Canadian Screen Awards) nominations and wins, an Emmy nomination for The Borgias, and the Premier’s Award (Ontario) for Creative Arts and Design in 2006. He has served on the board of the Canadian Film Centre and as an adjunct professor at Sheridan College.
