Biography
Bob Sweeney (1918–1992) was an American actor, director and producer of radio, television and film. Born in San Francisco, he graduated from Balboa High School and San Francisco State College. He began his career in radio as an announcer and comedian, forming a comedy team with Hal March in the 1940s.
Sweeney appeared in supporting roles in early television sitcoms and films, including as Cousin Bob in Alfred Hitchcock’s Marnie (1964). He later concentrated on directing and producing, helming numerous episodes of The Andy Griffith Show, Hawaii Five-O, The Love Boat, Matlock, Hogan’s Heroes and Dynasty. He received three Primetime Emmy nominations for his directing work.
Sweeney also directed television films such as Return to Mayberry (1986). He died of cancer in Westlake Village, California.
