Biography
Bodil Kjer was a Danish actress. Born in Odense in 1917, she made her stage debut in 1937 at the Royal Danish Theatre, where she remained associated for most of her career apart from a period at Det Ny Teater in the late 1950s. She appeared in films from 1938 onwards.
Kjer is known for leading roles across Danish cinema, including Jenny and the Soldier (1947), Mød mig på Cassiopeia (1951), Strømer (1976) and Babette's Feast (1987), in which she played Filippa. Denmark's highest film prize, the Bodil Awards, is named after her and Bodil Ipsen. She received the award for Best Actress in 1948 and 1952, Best Supporting Actress in 1977, and an honorary award for lifetime achievement in 1997. She died in 2003.
