Biography

Brian Fillis is a British writer for television and film. He began his career as a mathematics teacher, qualifying in 1996 and later working as a teaching consultant, while also writing plays. His television debut came with the 2006 BBC Four drama Fear of Fanny, an adaptation of his own stage play about cookery writer Fanny Cradock.

Fillis is known for writing An Englishman in New York (2009), the Channel 4 series Sirens (2011), which he created, and the 2017 BBC drama Against the Law, a factual drama about the Montagu trial. Other credits include The Curse of Steptoe (2008), Excluded (2010), Tatau (2015), Trust (2018) and episodes of Queers (2017). He has contributed to the revival of Bergerac (2025).

He received a BAFTA Television Craft Award nomination for Breakthrough Talent in 2007.
