Biography
Brian Thomson is an Australian scenic and production designer. Born on 5 January 1946 in Sydney, he began working in theatre after meeting director Jim Sharman in 1969. Their collaboration included stage productions of Hair and Jesus Christ Superstar.
Thomson created the sets for the original stage version of The Rocky Horror Show in multiple cities and served as production designer on its 1975 film adaptation. He also worked on the 1981 sequel Shock Treatment. His film credits include Starstruck (1982), Rebel (1985) and Ground Zero (1987).
In theatre he has designed for Broadway, including a Tony Award-winning scenic design for the 1996 revival of The King and I, and for numerous Australian productions such as Priscilla Queen of the Desert the Musical. He has also designed opera and large-scale events including the closing ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
