Biography
Brice Parain (1897–1971) was a French philosopher and essayist who appeared as an actor in one notable film role. He played the Philosopher in Jean-Luc Godard’s Vivre sa vie (1962), a part in which he essentially appeared as himself during a discussion scene with the protagonist.
Godard’s former philosophy tutor, Parain had trained at the École normale supérieure and became an agrégé de philosophie in 1922. He also appeared in television productions, including Entretien sur Pascal (1965) and an episode of L’art et les hommes.
