Biography
Brigitte Mira (also credited as Elisabeth Wally Stramm) was a German actress. Born in Hamburg in 1910, she moved to Berlin at a young age and worked extensively in theatre, cabaret and film. Her mother was German and her father Russian Jewish; during the Nazi period she appeared in the propaganda series Liese und Miese using false papers.
Mira collaborated frequently with Rainer Werner Fassbinder. She played Emmi Kurowski in his 1974 film Ali: Fear Eats the Soul, for which she received the German Film Award for Best Leading Actress. Other Fassbinder credits include roles in The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser (1974), Fox and His Friends (1975), Chinese Roulette (1977) and Lili Marleen (1981).
She appeared in the television series Berlin Alexanderplatz (1980) and achieved further success in the 1980s as Oma Färber in the long-running series Drei Damen vom Grill. Mira died in Berlin in 2005.
