Biography
Bülent Ersoy, also known as Bülent Erkoç, is a Turkish singer and actress born on 9 June 1952 in Istanbul. She began her career as a male singer in Turkish classical music and became an actor in the 1970s, appearing in films including Sıralardaki Heyecan (1976) and Ölmeyen Şarkı (1977).
Ersoy underwent gender reassignment surgery in 1981 and returned to performing after a ban on public appearances was lifted in 1988. She has released more than thirty albums and contributed to the soundtrack of Head-On (2004) with the song 'Ah le yar'. She has also appeared in later television and film roles.
