Biography

Caleb Femi is a director, poet, photographer and filmmaker. Born in 1990 in Kano, Nigeria, he moved to London at the age of seven and grew up on the North Peckham Estate. He studied English at Queen Mary, University of London, and later taught English at a secondary school in Tottenham.

In 2016 Femi was appointed London’s first Young People’s Laureate. His debut poetry collection, Poor (2020), won the Forward Prize for Best First Collection. He has directed short films including And They Knew Light (2017), Wishbone (2018), Survivor’s Guilt (2020) and Giraffe (2023), as well as commercials and music videos.

Femi made his television directorial debut with two episodes of the series Industry (2022). He has also directed an episode of Champion (2023) and worked on campaigns for brands including Louis Vuitton.
