Biography
Carey Perloff is a director, playwright, producer and educator. She served as artistic director of CSC Repertory in New York from 1988 to 1992 and of the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco from 1992 to 2018.
She directed numerous productions of works by Tom Stoppard and Harold Pinter, including the first American production of Leopoldstadt (2024). Perloff has also written several plays and two books on theatre: Beautiful Chaos: A Life in the Theater (2015) and Pinter and Stoppard: A Director's View (2022). She appeared as Play Director in the film I'm Still Here (2010).
Perloff holds a BA from Stanford University and was a Fulbright Fellow at Oxford. She has received awards including France's Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and has taught at institutions including New York University and Columbia University.
