Biography
Carla Ching is an American playwright and television writer. A native of Los Angeles, she holds a BA from Vassar College and an MFA from the New School for Drama. She began writing and performing with the pan-Asian collective Peeling at the Asian American Writers Workshop and has had plays produced by companies including the Atlantic Theater Company, South Coast Repertory and Ma-Yi Theater Company. Her work includes Nomad Motel, Fast Company (winner of the Edgerton New American Play Award) and The Two Kids That Blow Shit Up.
On television she has written for Graceland (2013), Fear the Walking Dead, I Love Dick (2016), The First (2018), Preacher (2016) and Home Before Dark (2020). She contributed to and served as co-executive producer on the 2024 series Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Ching is a founding member of The Kilroys, a member of New Dramatists and former artistic director of 2g. In 2021 she shared the Horton Foote Playwriting Award from the Dramatists Guild.
