Biography
Carlos Coimbra was a Brazilian film editor, director and screenwriter. He edited O Pagador de Promessas (The Given Word, 1962), directed by Anselmo Duarte, which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes.
He directed several films in the cangaço cycle, including A Morte Comanda o Cangaço (1960), which was entered in the Berlin International Film Festival, as well as Lampião, o Rei do Cangaço (1964), Cangaceiros de Lampião (1967) and Corisco, o Diabo Loiro (1969). Other notable directorial work includes the historical drama Independência ou Morte (1972).
Coimbra was born in Campinas, São Paulo, and died in São Paulo on 14 February 2007.
