Biography
Carmen Zapata (1927–2014) was an American actress whose career spanned six decades on stage, television and film. She appeared as a choir nun in Sister Act (1992) and Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit (1993). Other notable credits include the PBS series Villa Alegre, the soap opera Santa Barbara as Carmen Castillo, and guest roles in series such as Batman: The Animated Series, Married... with Children and Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.
Zapata made her Broadway debut in the chorus of Oklahoma! in 1946. Early in her career she performed stand-up comedy under the name Marge Cameron. In 1973 she co-founded the Bilingual Foundation of the Arts in Los Angeles with Margarita Galban to promote bilingual theatre. She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2003 and was knighted by King Juan Carlos of Spain in 1990.
Born Carmen Margarita Zapata in New York City to a Mexican father and Argentine mother, she died in Van Nuys, California, on 5 January 2014.
