Biography
Catherine Breillat is a French film director, screenwriter and novelist. She was born on 13 July 1948 in Bressuire, Deux-Sèvres.
Breillat acted as Mouchette in Bernardo Bertolucci's Last Tango in Paris (1972). She made her directorial debut with A Real Young Girl (1976) and has since written and directed numerous features, including Romance (1999) and Fat Girl (2001), on which she is also credited as screenwriter.
Her sister, Marie-Hélène Breillat, is an actress. Breillat studied at the Institut des hautes études cinématographiques and published her first novel at the age of seventeen.
