Biography
Charles Granval, born Charles Louis Gribouval, was a French stage and film actor. He joined the Comédie-Française in 1904 and became its 364th sociétaire in 1922, remaining until 1934.
Granval appeared in around twenty-eight films between 1917 and 1942. He is known for his role as the bookseller Édouard Lestingois in Jean Renoir’s Boudu Saved from Drowning (1932), and for parts in Julien Duvivier films including La Belle Équipe (1936), Pépé le Moko (1937) as Maxime, and La Fin du jour (1939). He was also a stage director.
He was married first to actress Berthe Bovy and later to actress Madeleine Renaud; the couple had a son, actor Jean-Pierre Granval.
