Biography
Charles Hart is an English lyricist, librettist and songwriter. Born on 3 June 1961 in London, he was educated at Desborough School in Maidenhead, Robinson College, Cambridge, and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
He is best known for his lyrics for Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera (1986 stage musical; 2004 film), for which he received an Academy Award nomination for the song "Learn to Be Lonely". His other credits include lyrics for Aspects of Love (1989) and additional lyrics for Love Never Dies (2012). He has also written for television and collaborated on musicals with Howard Goodall.
Hart has received two Ivor Novello Awards and Tony Award nominations for The Phantom of the Opera and Aspects of Love. He is the grandson of actress Angela Baddeley and theatre director Glen Byam Shaw.
