Biography
Charles Macaulay was an American actor. Born on 26 September 1927 in Louisville, Kentucky, he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, where he won the First Judges Medal for his performance in The Heiress. He made his New York stage debut in 1952 and appeared in multiple Broadway and off-Broadway productions, as well as Shakespearean roles at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego.
Macaulay worked extensively in television, with appearances in the original Star Trek (as Landru and Jaris), Mission: Impossible, Columbo, Wonder Woman and several Perry Mason television films, initially as a judge and later as District Attorney Markham. His film credits include The Big Red One (1980) as a general and World War I captain, Airport '77 (1977) and Splash (1984) as the president. He was a close friend and business partner of Raymond Burr and taught at the USC School of Theatre from 1986 to 1992. He died on 13 August 1999 in Healdsburg, California.
