Biography
Charles Mingus Jr. (1922–1979) was an American jazz double bassist, pianist, composer and bandleader. He contributed music to John Cassavetes’ film Shadows (1960), with recordings made in 1958 that featured in the initial 1958 cut; much of the material was later removed or replaced.
Mingus is recognised for a career spanning three decades and collaborations with musicians including Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and Eric Dolphy. His compositions appear on albums such as Mingus Ah Um (1959) and The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady (1963).
