Biography
Charles Ernest Paton (31 July 1874 – 10 April 1970) was an English character actor. He joined the circus at the age of 14 and gained early experience on the stage and in music halls before entering films in the late 1920s.
Paton appeared in more than 100 films between 1927 and 1952, most often in small supporting or uncredited roles as shopkeepers, porters, clerks and similar figures. His credited parts include Mr. White in Alfred Hitchcock's Blackmail (1929), Ernie Brooks in A Canterbury Tale (1944), and roles in The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934), Caesar and Cleopatra (1945) and Night and the City (1950).
