Biography
Charles Weldon (1940–2018) was an American actor, director and artistic director. Born in Wetumka, Oklahoma, he began his career as a singer before turning to acting in the late 1960s. He made his Broadway debut in the 1969 musical Buck White and appeared in the original San Francisco production of Hair.
Weldon joined the Negro Ensemble Company in 1970 and served as its artistic director from 2005 until his death. His stage work included the Broadway production of The River Niger (1973). On screen he is known for the role of Blade in Stir Crazy (1980), as well as appearances in Malcolm X (1992), The River Niger (1976) and episodes of Law & Order and Kojak.
