Biography
Charlie Hodge, also credited as Charles Franklin Hodge, was an American singer, guitarist and actor. Born in Decatur, Alabama, he first met Elvis Presley in 1955 while performing with the gospel quartet the Foggy River Boys. The pair became close friends during their US Army service, after which Hodge joined Presley’s entourage, known as the Memphis Mafia.
Hodge lived at Graceland for 17 years and worked as Presley’s vocal coach, harmony singer, rhythm guitarist and stage assistant. He appeared in several of Presley’s concert films, including Elvis: That’s the Way It Is (1970) and Elvis on Tour (1972), and took small uncredited acting roles in films such as Clambake (1967) and Charro! (1969). He also played himself in the 1979 television film Elvis.
Hodge died in 2006. Archive footage of him features in the 2026 documentary EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert.
