Biography
Charlie Tyrell is a Canadian filmmaker and director. His short documentaries include I Thought I Told You to Shut Up!! (2015), My Dead Dad’s Porno Tapes (2018) and Broken Orchestra (2019). My Dead Dad’s Porno Tapes was shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject and won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Short Documentary.
Tyrell co-directed the feature documentary The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist (2026) with Daniel Roher. It premiered at Sundance and received a theatrical release from Focus Features. He has also directed visual segments for the HBO documentary Great Photo, Lovely Life (2023). His work has screened at festivals including Sundance, SXSW and TIFF.
