Biography
Charu Roy (6 September 1890 – 28 September 1971) was an Indian actor, film director, painter and cultural figure. Born in Berhampore in the Bengal Presidency, he graduated in geology from Presidency College, Calcutta, and trained as a painter in the Bengal School tradition.
He appeared as an actor in the silent Indo-German productions Shiraz (1928), in which he played Prince Khurram (later Emperor Shah Jahan), and A Throw of Dice (1929), in which he played King Ranjit. Roy also worked as a costume designer on Prem Sanyas (1925) and later directed films including Bigraha (1930), Bangalee (1936) and Pathik (1939).
