Biography

Chaz Jankel (also credited as Chas Jankel or Charles Jeremy Jankel) is an English musician, songwriter and composer. Born in 1952 in Stanmore, Middlesex, he trained at Mill Hill School and St Martin's School of Art. He rose to prominence in the late 1970s as guitarist and keyboardist with Ian Dury and the Blockheads, co-writing hits including "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll", "Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick" and "Reasons to Be Cheerful, Part 3".

Jankel has released several solo albums and continued performing with the Blockheads after Dury's death in 2000. His film composing credits include Making Mr. Right (1987), D.O.A. (1988, co-directed by his sister Annabel Jankel), Tales from the Darkside: The Movie (1990), K2 (1991) and Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll (2010), for which he received a BAFTA nomination.
